The Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinals continue Wednesday when Novak Djokovic will take on Alex de Minaur on Centre Court at the All England Club. These two last met at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 where Djokovic won the match 7-6, 6-4. Djokovic is on the comeback trail from knee surgery just over a month ago and will now face a rising star in his biggest Wimbledon test so far.

Alex de Minaur is 36-12 this year, losing to Jannik Sinner in the Rotterdam Open final and beating Casper Ruud in the Mexican Open final. He was unable to reach a semi-final on clay.

The 25-year-old immediately improved on grass, winning the title in 's-Hertogenbosch where he didn’t drop a set. He suffered a 1-6 6-4 6-2 defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in his opening match at Queen's Club.

Djokovic’s reaction to the Wimbledon crowd was the biggest talking point of his straight-sets victory over Holger Rune on Monday night, with the 37-year-old warning the crowd: “You can’t touch me.”

De Minaur has played only three matches at Wimbledon. He first defeated Duckworth and Munar without losing a set, then advanced to the fourth round after Lucas Pouille withdrew from the tournament. In the fourth round, de Minaur defeated Arthur Fils in four sets.

De Minaur beat Arthur Fils 6-2 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the fourth round, a low quality match where he hit 41 unforced errors and saved 8/13 break points.

The World No.1 was consistent on clay, getting to the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo and Geneva before injuring his knee at the French Open.

The Serbian underwent surgery and returned to the court at Wimbledon. He thrashed Vit Kopriva 6-1 6-2 6-2 in the first round before a 6-3 6-4 5-7 7-5 victory over Jacob Fearnley.

Novak has been inconsistent this year, but his experience and skill have helped him progress through the Wimbledon draw. Halfway through the season, the Serbian player has yet to win a title in 2024.

At Wimbledon, Djokovic has defeated Vít Kopřiva, Jacob Fearnley, Alexei Popyrin, and Holger Rune. He has lost only two sets in these matches and aims to win Wimbledon for the eighth time in his illustrious career.

Djokovic defeated Alexei Popyrin 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 in the third round, hitting 53 winners and 18 unforced errors. He breezed past Holger Rune 6-3 6-4 6-2, winning 72% of his 2nd serves and saving two break points.
